Wedding Advice

I've photographed over a 1000 weddings so I think I've seen it all.
But it may be that I haven't!

Choosing your Photographer.
Use a qualified professional.
Shop around for quality, service and value.
Find a style that you like and try to meet the photographer before booking.
If you have any ideas, collect examples from magazines to show and discuss.

   Before the day.
Check that dresses and suits fit properly, especially if hired.
Check with all the services you've booked that they have the correct date, time and venues.
Check your locations for other events that might cause delays-a big match or carnival.
Check the timings for the day with your photographer and reception-are they realistic?
What will you do if it rains? Have a "plan B" for indoor pictures.

     At home.
Have something to eat - fainting is quite common.
Scuff the soles of new leather shoes to avoid slipping over.
Who has the bouquets, button holes and orders of service?
Is Dad dressed properly - shoes not slippers?
If you are having pictures/video at home then it's better for the Bride to be ready on time, rather than worrying about the bridesmaids.

 At the Ceremony Venue.
Check for buttonholes, orders of service, rings and a Groom!
Ask guests to switch off their mobile 'phones.
Don't be late - ministers and registrars may have other ceremonies to attend.

   At the Reception.
Check that everything is on schedule and in order.
Check the cake - make sure it's not sinking!
Speeches are often finished before the wedding breakfast these days - particularly to avoid the stress for the men.

  Generally.
Choose a good best-man and/or ushers - they can deal with any problems while the couple try to relax and enjoy themselves.
If you are having any dresses made, check the material with your photographer because some colours won't reproduce correctly in pictures.
Why get married on a Saturday? You may find discounts for some wedding  services if you choose Midweek.
Partners who feel awkward or self-conscious in front of the camera may be offered a pre-wedding photo shoot to help avoid more stress on the day.

  Finally.
It's your day so do your own thing.
There are so many ways to make it different and special for you. Venues, themes, costumes, transport, cakes and table layouts, balloons, Scottish pipers, chimney sweeps - almost anything you want!
Most problems can be minimised with experience and by careful planning with you,
so choose all your services wisely.

Whatever you decide - enjoy it!
